Application for Commodore James Norrington
Character's Name:
(Commodore) James Norrington
FP ID#:
23558
One word or phrase that describes the character:
Inauspicious
Response to Scenario:
Port Royale was abuzz with activity at the prospect of the newly reinstated Commodore. After all, with the right leverage one can do almost anything. James Norrington had never been very favourable, after all, he had lost his fiancé and his job once before. That’s not to say that James was about to give up in his search for the infuriating Mister Jack Sparrow. Of course, Jack had once been of some use to him and that had been in gaining the heart of Davy Jones, but now… now he had his title back and with it his job; specifically the hunt for Sparrow.
Adjusting the navy blue coat that hung from his still quite ragged looking frame, James quickly walked toward the docks. It was midmorning – around ten o’clock to be precise- and James was performing his usual daily routine. First he would visit the docks and enquire about any presence of the pirate before retreating to Lord Beckett’s office where he would receive his orders for the day or week; it changed quite often depending on Beckett’s mood.
As he walked, James’ shining, black boots made a light ‘tap’ sound against the wood; it certainly did make a nice change from that of the rotting wood on the Black Pearl. But then again anything at all was better than that filthy ship or the pirate port, Tortuga.
Shifting his mind away from thoughts of his bitter existence, James approached a man standing with a young child. He glanced down at the book in the man’s hand as he spoke, “Have there been any signs of Jack Sparrow?” It was the same dull and dreary question he asked every morning and, of course, he got the same answer that he got every morning.
“Not one sighting, Commodore, sir.”
Giving the man a curt nod, James placed his hands in the pocket of his coat, spun on his heels and retreated back to where he came from. He remembered a time when his thoughts were focused on the beautiful Elizabeth Swann –that’s not to say that they didn’t often wander back to her, of course- but now she was no longer a part of his life, unless you considered her attachment to Jack and Will part of his life and so he was required to occupy his mind in alternative ways.
“Commodore Norrington is here to see you, Lord Beckett.” The assistance’s voice rang out across the room as Beckett turned to face James.
“Ah, Commodore, there you are.” The man began, picking a sword up off of his desk and examining it in a distasteful fashion. “The new ship is ready, you are to set sail tomorrow morning immediately in search of Jack Sparrow. You do realize that if you fail this task the warrants for your arrest can, and will, be rewritten?”
Of course Lord Beckett didn’t entirely trust him, especially after his refusal at giving all the details about the heart away. Nevertheless James agreed to set sail in the morning –after all, what other choice did he have?- and left Beckett to admire his wonderful map.
There certainly was a difference between things that are lawful and those that are right, but in James’ opinion Jack Sparrow was neither. Some of his actions in the past may have been quite right in themselves, but generally speaking the motives were not. Therefore James had no regrets about the deed that was about to take place.
|| I wasn't sure if there was a length limit on this so... yeah, I hope it's not too long. xD ||
{"No, not any more! Weren't you listening?"}
